Airport History

Welcome to the Marion Municipal Airport in Marion, Ohio. In 1943 the aviation committees of the Marion City Council and the Chamber of Commerce concluded tremendous change was taking place in military aviation capabilities. The grass strip airport on Holland Road was too small and antiquated to handle the anticipated commercial and private flying potential that would occur when the war was over. In February 1946, a deed of 643 acres in the Scioto Ordnance area was received at the airport’s current location on Pole Lane Road. In October 1948, design and construction began on the airport and was completed in August 1950. The official opening of the airport was September 1, 1950 with air transport services provided by TWA. For expansion purposes, the original 643 acres has grown to 950 acres since inception.

Today, KMNN has two crossing runways of 3500 and 5000 feet. This makes KMNN a wonderful airport for training and business flying. With the additional acreage, expansion of runways is available for future growth and expansion. In 2020, a new terminal building will welcome aviators and the public to the Marion Municipal Airport. KMNN has been the home of Baron Enterprises for full FBO services for more than 40 years. The Central Ohio Soaring Association (COSA) is based at KMNN providing glider tows, rides and competition for unpowered flight. KMNN is also the home base for Tactical Agriculture LLC, an agricultural aerial application business providing the local farming community with many agricultural services.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the 5th annual Wings and Wheels Fly-In / Cruise-In was canceled. Check back for the next Wings and Wheels event at the Marion Municipal Airport.
